Professor Dr. Pairash Thajchayapong, Executive Committee and Secretary of the Information Technology Foundation under the Initiative of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Dr.Ganigar Chen, Vice President, National Science Museum-NSM, Mr.Wang Qiang, First Secretary, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand and Prof.Dr. Voranop Viiyakarn, Director, Aquatic Resources Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University have attended the opening ceremony of an exhibition on “Xue Long 2 and see the unseen in polar region” on May 14, at Chuk Samet Pier, Sattahip Naval Base, Chonburi province. The exhibition has been arranged on the arrival of the Chinese’s Xue Long 2; an ice-breaker and polar research vessels to celebrate the 70th Birthday Anniversary of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn; April 2, and the 50th Anniversary of Chinese-Thailand Diplomatic Relationship. To experience the Xue Long 2, the audience can observe an exhibition of China’s most advanced polar research icebreaker ship, which highlights the world’s first 360-degree bidirectional independent rotation technology.  Behind the story of Antarctic exploration mission will be presented by Thai researchers in a talk during May 14-25 at Crytal Court, 2nd floor, Siam Paragon.

Dr.Ganigar Chen, Vice President of NSM said “the exhibition on “Xue Long 2 and See the Unseen in Polar Region” presents a collaboration on science between China and Thailand. The Xue Long 2 can be an inspiration from the South Pole through a challenging mission of the Thai researcher team. The exhibition features an interesting information of polar investigation conducted by the Thai researchers who employed an advanced exploration technology, and behind stories from the exploration. I expect that the exhibition will convey a value knowledge and trigger an inspiration to the Thai youth for their further study and investigation, and encourage them to give more attention to marine science and future career.  In addition, I do hope this exhibition will help to cultivate a science culture in the Thai society.”

Prof.Dr.Voranop said “As a Thai researcher who joined the marine science exploration mission in both polar areas, let me tell that the explorations were focused on climate change and its impact on marine life and ecosystems. It was an honor to have the unique experience of exploring the polar regions since it opened my eyes to a world for away, but the results were clearly close to me.  I have realized the importance of conducting research in these pristine areas, which is a sensitive landlock areas, but has been greatly affected by environmental and climate change. In addition, the opportunity in using cutting-edge technology and working with world-class scientists has inspired me to be even more motivated and committed to research which will contribute to further international collaboration. We sincerely hope that the experiences conveyed through this exhibition will be beneficial and inspire the visitors, especially young people, to become more interested in science and exploring our world.”
